AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY I

Grade:  11th

During this course, students will learn about brakes covering hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic brake systems; students learn diagnostic and repair procedures for disc and drum brakes, anti-lock brake systems (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability systems. Hands-on training includes the use of brake lathes, micrometers, and scan tools. Curriculum also includes suspension and steering and electrical/electronic systems. Students will be introduced to the principles of voltage, resistance, and current flow leading into diagnosis and repair of charging, starting, ignition, lighting and accessory systems. Students will learn diagnostic meters and how to communicate with on-board computer through OBD-II scan tools. Students will also learn system operations with HVAC, refrigerant handling and diagnosis of common HVAC faults; emphasis is placed on environmental and safety practices that meet ASE standards. Students will be required to pay for their $30 work shirt and $20 for SkillsUSA membership. This fee along with passing the safety test must be taken care of before participating in shop activities.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY II

Grade:  12th
